Pierre Delettre appointed as NEC Race Director

Pierre Delettre will join the Formula Renault Northern European Cup team for the forthcoming season in the position of Race Director.

Delettre, who already has a long-standing relationship with Renault Sport Racing, will manage all on-circuit aspects of the 2018 season.

Delettre’s experience in the sport is wide-ranging, having presided over the inaugural FIA Formula E Championship race in Beijing back in September 2014.

The Belgian also enjoyed over a decade of involvement with the Formula Renault 3.5 Series. He has also served as Race Director for both the Formula Renault Eurocup and the Renault Sport Trophy RS01.

After joining the RSR ranks in 2004, he was also part of the organisational team for the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup and the Formula Renault 2000 Eurocup.

His involvement extends through the motorsport pyramid right up to Formula 1, where he has worked alongside the FIA’s permanent Race Director, Charlie Whiting, at the Belgian Grand Prix as the local Race Director.

The six-event calendar will see Delettre visit some familiar venues, with four FIA Grade I, Formula 1-hosting circuits set to feature including the world-famous Autodrome Nazionale Monza, Hungaroring and Spa-Francorchamps.

The schedule is also complimented by a support race slot at the iconic Pau Grand Prix, providing NEC competitors with a rare opportunity to hone their street racing skills.

Delettre’s first weekend in charge will be the opening round of the new season, set to get underway at Circuit Zandvoort over the weekend of 28-29 April.

Pierre Delettre said, “I’m very happy to be joining the NEC as Race Director for the 2018 season. I’ve had plenty of experience with the 2.0 litre Formula Renault car, it’s a great category with good racing and I think Renault Sport have built a good ladder for development.”
