Phil Hill believes the Formula Renault Northern European Cup opener on the streets of Pau provided him with invaluable experience as he makes the transition from karting to international single-seater competition.
The iconic street circuit is a challenge at the best of times, let alone in the torrentially wet conditions, with Hill bouncing back from an accident during practice to score two ‘de-facto’ third positions among the full-season NEC entries in both races.
He also paid tribute to Anders Motorsport for their support on his first weekend of competition, and believes the experience will only serve to help him at the next event, taking place at the high-speed Autodromo Nazionale Monza on the last weekend of June.
“In the races particularly, I learnt a lot, with my first overtakes and twice we had to contend with the wet conditions,” said Hill.
“We had some good fights with the guys just in front of me – even though we didn’t get past, it was still good experience.
“I just want to put on record my thanks to everybody at Anders Motorsport not just for their excellent work this weekend, but also the support they’ve provided.
“We’ll go to Monza and look for even better results there.”
