R-ace GP’s Gabriel Gandulia will begin his championship fightback this weekend [01-02 September] as the Formula Renault Northern European Cup (NEC) returns to action in Budapest.
The Argentine sits at the heart of the title fight in third, just 14 points adrift of championship leader Phil Hill (Anders Motorsport), and a mere 6 markers behind Hill’s team mate Doureid Ghattas.
He claimed a podium brace last time out at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps before the summer break, but concedes that breaking Hill’s current run of form – four races at the head of the NEC field – will be crucial at the Hungaroring.
Speaking to the official series website, Gandulia feels well-equipped for the task in hand and has put a focus on his physical preparation during the summer break.
“It has been a nice start with the team and to be honest, I did have better expectations for the events at Monza and Spa, where the results weren’t as good compared to the other NEC drivers.
“I’ve done a lot of work physically and my main objective this weekend at the Hungaroring is to reduce the championship difference. Hill has shown a good rhythm in races, so I think we’ll have to work on that.”
