R-ace GP have confirmed they will field a quartet of cars in the 2018 Formula Renault Northern European Cup curtain raiser at the Pau Grand Prix.
Thibaut de Merindol’s outfit, which starts the season as defending Drivers’ and Teams’ Champions, will be bolstered in the historic French town by the addition of Formula Renault Eurocup drivers Logan Sargeant, Charles Milesi and Victor Martins.
The street race provides the perfect opportunity for the trio and their engineers to prepare for the Eurocup’s support race slot at Monaco a fortnight later.
Newcomer Gabriel Gandulia has also enjoyed a strong period of winter testing as he integrates himself into the fold, making the team a force to be reckoned with in the season opening double-header.
Sargeant and Milesi are no strangers to the championship, with the former already a race-winner in the Eurocup at Paul Ricard after making his competitive debut in a 2.0 litre Formula Renault car at the 2017 NEC finale at Hockenheimring, where the British F4 graduate’s pace was evident.
For Milesi, the move to the Eurocup proved the natural progression after using the NEC’s strong relationship with the Renault Sport Racing ladder to learn his craft in 2017, taking a victory at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, before making the step up for 2018, a successful process demonstrated by his consistent points-scoring form.
2017 French F4 vice-champion and Renault Sport Academy driver Martins will be another name to throw into the mix for silverware, and with fellow Eurocup outfit Tech1 Racing recently confirming their participation the level of competition at the front is only set to intensify.
After Pau, the championship takes in further stand-alone events at Monza and Hockenheimring, as well as three shared weekends with the Eurocup at Hungaroring, Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and the Nurburgring.
