Anders Motorsport’s Phil Hill has been buoyed ahead of the new Formula Renault Northern European Cup season after a series of positive tests on the continent.
Hill, who announced his graduation from karting to the 2.0 litre Formula Renault car back in January, gathered data and experience in a range of weather conditions on several circuits as he prepares for the championships season-opener on the iconic Pau Grand Prix support bill next month [11-13 May].
His team-mate at Anders Motorsport for 2018 is set to be announced in the coming weeks ahead of the season opener in the historic French town.
The shared test with the Formula Renault Eurocup at Hockenheim a fortnight ago – recognised as the next stage on Renault Sport Racing’s junior single-seater ladder – also gave Hill an early opportunity to pit his talent against the next generation of motorsport stars in equal machinery and get an early indicator of where to focus his development this season.
“I was happy to finally step in the car again after a long break,” commented Hill. “The first installation laps were wet but that was good to learn because it was just my second time in the wet with the Formula Renault car. I was able to go a good pace on used wets, my engineers were very happy about it because they haven’t seen me in the wet until this point.”
The 2018 NEC calendar features standalone events at Pau, Monza and Hockenheim alongside shared meetings at Spa, Hungaroring and Nurburgring with the Eurocup, offering drivers a comprehensive package designed to assist them in breaking through in international motorsport.
