JD Motorsport have confirmed they will compete in the upcoming Formula Renault Northern European Cup meeting at Monza.
The experienced Italian outfit will field compatriot Lorenzo Colombo at his ‘home’ event, with the focus on repeating his Formula Renault Eurocup podium double at the high-speed venue in mid-April.
Competition for silverware will be fierce, however, with a healthy entry boasting some of Europe’s leading single-seater racers and rising stars are set to be confirmed for the double-header around the world-famous 3.6 mile circuit.
Also on Colombo’s record is a victory at Monza in the final round of the 2017 Italian F4 Championship, highlighting the strength in depth as the series gears up for another action-packed weekend after a fascinating opening pair of races on the streets of Pau last month.
With the focus on developing the next generation of motorsport talent on a wide range of internationally-renowned circuits, the NEC then takes in further events at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Hungaroring and Nurburgring before reaching a conclusion at the Hockenheimring in October.
The series reconvenes in Northern Italy over the weekend of 29 June – 01 July.
Roberto Cavallari (JD Motorsport) said, “This is Lorenzo’s first season competing in Formula Renault, and after a great start to the year he’s endured some bad luck in recent races.
“Despite this, our goals remain very high, as always, and the NEC event at Monza – a circuit we regard as our ‘home’ track – is a good opportunity to compete with other excellent drivers and continue working to improve our performance ahead of the next rounds of the Formula Renault Eurocup.
“For many years we’ve been supporters of the NEC and it’s always a pleasure to come back and see old friends. I’d like to put my thanks on record to the promoters and Renault Sport for the chance to take part in this event.”
