Gabriel Gandulia praises R-ace GP team-mates after Pau learning curve

Gabriel Gandulia has paid tribute to his R-ace GP team-mates after using their input and experience to score two strong results in the Formula Renault Northern European Cup season opener.

The event on the streets of Pau marked Gandulia’s first foray into European single-seater competition, with the Argentine qualifying fastest of the full-season NEC entries on Sunday and taking two top-ten finishes overall.

Given the difficult nature of overtaking on the streets of Pau, Gandulia said he was pleased with the weekend, but will be looking for better results when the championship reconvenes at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza over the final weekend of June.

“Having my team-mates from the Eurocup here is really helpful because they’re familiar with the circuit – we’re sharing information constantly, and it’s really useful to have their experience and they’re able to give their opinions on the car clearly,” said Gandulia.

“I’m quite happy with the weekend because, although it could have been much better, the idea was to be the fastest full-season NEC entry in all the sessions.

“We didn’t manage it in qualifying on the Saturday due to the traffic and it’s notoriously hard to overtake here at Pau; the follow day we put that right in the morning but a small mistake in the second race dropped me back a couple of positions.

“Next the championship heads to Monza, I’ve already done some laps in testing there with the team and we’ll be looking for some more positive results.”
