Michael Benyahia was presented with a trophy at the annual Renault Sport Racing award ceremony in Paris [7th December] after his title-winning success in this year’s Formula Renault Northern European Cup.
The R-ace GP driver was honoured alongside drivers from the Formula Renault Eurocup, envisaged as the next step on the motorsport ladder for aspiring professional single-seater racers.
Benyahia will receive his NEC championship silverware in Brussels on the 21st December at the annual RACB Awards night.
The championship battle went down to the final race of the season at Hockenheim in October, with ninth position ahead of team-mate and title rival Gilles Magnus enough to secure Benyahia the crown.
His next visit was to Enstone, the headquarters of the Renault Sport Formula One Team, where he undertook a session on the team’s simulator as well as a tour of the facilities and a physical evaluation by the team’s staff.
He has also since visited Hong Kong as part of his role as Development Driver with the Venturi Formula E team, which focuses around simulator work and running in the car to assist with the team’s strategy and car development for drivers Eduardo Mortara and Maro Engel on race weekends.
He has yet to formally confirm his plans for the 2018 season, but now joins an illustrious group including current Formula 1 drivers Valtteri Bottas and Carlos Sainz Jr. to have lifted the NEC title.
